T1과 MSI에 출전하는 LCK 2개 팀이 사우디아라비아에서 열리는 e스포츠 월드컵(EWC) 리그 오브 레전드(LoL) 부문에 참가한다.
e스포츠 월드컵 재단은 7월 16일부터 20일까지 사우디아라비아 수도 리야드에서 개최될 EWC LoL 부문의 세부 내용을 공개했다. 이번 대회의 **총상금은 200만 달러(한화 약 28억 9천만 원)**이며, 참가 팀은 기존 8개 팀에서 12개 팀으로 확대됐다.
LCK 포함 12개 팀 참가… 출전권 배분 방식은?
LCK에서는 지난해 EWC 챔피언 T1과 MSI 출전 자격을 얻은 ‘로드 투 MSI’ 1, 2위 팀이 참가한다.
다른 지역의 출전권 배분 방식은 다음과 같다.
- LPL, LEC: 스플릿2 플레이오프 우승, 준우승 팀
- LTA(라틴 아메리카): 북부 스플릿2 상위 2개 팀, 남부 스플릿2 1개 팀
- LCP(아시아-태평양 지역): 미드 시즌 퀄리파잉 시리즈 1, 2위 팀
이번 대회는 그룹 스테이지 후 상위 2개 팀이 싱글 엘리미네이션 방식으로 결승을 치르는 구조다. 세부 상금 분배는 추후 발표될 예정이다.
T1, 2연패 도전… 지난해 결승서 TES 꺾고 우승
지난해 열린 초대 EWC에서는 T1이 TES를 3대1로 꺾고 챔피언에 올랐다. 올해도 강력한 우승 후보로 평가받으며, 2연패를 노린다.
이번 EWC는 MSI 이후 열리는 대회로, 각 리그 최강 팀들이 한자리에 모여 치열한 경쟁을 펼칠 예정이다.
